Dulles Airport Terminal

Dulles Airport is formed by a large Main Passenger Terminal, which connects with Z gates and two Midfield Concourses parallel to each other (they are home of A, B, C and D gates.

The International Arrivals building is immediately attached to the Main Terminal.


Inter-terminal transportation

Passengers may transfer between terminals by the AeroTrain, which stands for the express underground automated airport train system connecting the Main Terminal and midfield A, B and C gates. Total trip time is of less than 2 minutes.

Please note that international passengers cannot ride AeroTrain – They first need to clear U.S. Customs.

The AeroTrain Station in the Main Terminal is located beyond the TSA security screening checkpoints.

On the other hand, given the construction of the Silver Line Station, shuttle buses frequently run every 5 minutes to Garage 1 (south side), to the Main Terminal (Doors 2 & 6).



Dulles Airport consists of the levels described below:

Ground Transportation level: Counts with door 2, 4 and 6 with the following services: Car rental counters, pet relief area. From this level you can access to taxis, shared vans and parking.

Arrivals level: This is the arrivals and baggage claim area. It is also home of the AeroTrain Station. Access to the AeroTrain and shuttle buses, also to Z, A, B and D gates.

International Arrivals is located to the right of the lower level.

Services: Baggage claim carousels, ATMs, lost & found, nursing room, information counter, food, drink and retail concessions.

Access to the Silver Line Express.

Security checkpoint level: This level is split into the east and west security checkpoints.

After the security check, passengers may proceed to Z gates, located on the left, or to gates A and B, through the walkway, or to D gates by shuttle bus.

AeroTrain level: This level can be reached by elevator and serves A, B and C gates.

Departures level: This is the Departures and ticketing level, where the check-in facilities are located with both security checkpoints, east and west, straight to Z Gates Z6-Z10, passenger walkway to both A and B Gates and to D gates by shuttle.

Services: Currency exchange, information counter, pet relief area, CEAR Security lane, souvenir store, kids’ funway for children area, shoe deposit and charging stations.



IAD Airport has 2 Concourses buildings: A & B and C & D, two satellite terminals.

Dulles Airport has a total of 123 gates.

Concourses A-B

It is home of A Gates A1-A32 and B Gates B35-B79. These gates and connected to the main terminal by a walkway and also by train shuttles.

A gates mostly operates with international flights, having several gates that manage regional jets and small planes. This gates are located on the ground floor and are mostly used by United Express (A1-A6).

B gates operate with all non-United domestic and Canada flights but some international carriers use them as well. They have direct connection with the AeroTrain.

The shuttle bus to D Gates is located close to A6 Gate.

Services: Currency exchange, duty free stores, children’s play area.


Concourses C-D

It is home of C Gates C1-C30 and D Gates D1-D32. Both are connected by a walkway.

United Airlines is the only carrier that operates in C and D. Most of the United Express jet operations and United flights are handled out of this concourses.

A shuttle bus to A gates is available close to Gate D11.

Please, note that D Gates are not served by the AeroTrain, but by shuttle buses.

C-D concourse is expected to be replaced by a new concourse close to the Air Traffic Tower.

USO Lounge: Location: Main Terminal, Arrivals level, across Baggage Carousels 12. Exclusively for military use and free of charge for members of US military and their families. Services: Wi-Fi, TV, food, drink and press. Opening hours: Daily, 06:00 am to 10:00 pm.

Air France Lounge: Location: Next to Gate A19. Passengers of KLM, Korean Air, Iceland Air and other Skyteam airlines may use it.

British Airways Lounge: Location: Across B Gates. Access is done by both AeroTrain and from the concourse level by elevator. Passengers of Air Lingus may use it.

Etihad Lounge: Location: Next to Gates A14 and A16. Passengers of Saudi may use it.

Lufthansa: Location: Next to Gates B49 and B51. Passengers of Air China, All Nippon Airways, Austrian, Avianca, Brussels, Ethiopian and United may use it.

Turkish Airlines: Location: Next to Gate B43. Gold Members of any Star Alliance airline may use it.

United Airlines: Location: Next to Gates C3, C7, C17 and D8. Gold Members of any Star Alliance airline may use it.

Virgin Atlantic: Location: Next to Gate A32.
